Together, “policies and procedures” provide a roadmap for day-to-day operations of an event. They ensure compliance with (local) laws and regulations and provide guidance for decision-making.
The legal definition of duty of care for an event is “a requirement that a person act toward others and the public with the watchfulness, attention, caution, and prudence that a reasonable person in the circumstances would use”. If a person’s actions do not meet this standard of care, then the acts are considered as negligent.
In today’s “Social Media” society if an event goes well images and video will be posted on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and snapchat. At the same time should an incident occurs like a shooting, stage collapse etc, it will again be posted on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat and could go “viral” making sure that your event complies with the “Duty of Care” requirements will guard against any mishaps.
